Shivling-like structure in Gyanvapi mosque was damaged to make a fountain on the top, sources have told Times Now. The ‘Shivling’ was made of black stone, but there was an attempt to change the character of it by drilling a hole on the top, the sources said.
Muslims have been claiming that a circular structure found inside the mosque is a fountain. However, the Hindu side claims that it is the original Shivling where the mosque came up later, and that the evidence of temple can still be seen on the mosque walls where symbols like lotus, swastika, kalash and trishul are still available.

The report says that on the top of the original structure, a white cemented stone was put with lines drawn on it. Speaking to Times Now, Hindu petitioner Sohan Lal Arya, who was also present during the survey, said that the Shivling was in black colour while the top portion was a cemented layer put to change the character of the original structure.
Vishnu Jain, who is representing Hindu side in the case, today claimed that the hole that has been found on the Shivling has been done by Muslims. “This (Shivling) was in Muslims’ control. They are saying this is a fountain. But they have damaged it. They had put a chakri type thing on the top it. The five lines that are there on the top of Shivling have been made by them,” he said.
Jain said that some days ago, the Muslims were carrying the chakri and were caught by the CRPF, which is securing the place. The chakri was allegedly used to carve lines on the top of the original structure. Jain said that chakri has been kept in the store room and its videography has been done. He said he will put this fact before the court once the maintainability of the case is decided.
The survey report also states that there were some mantras but they were scratched—a clear attempt to destroy the evidence that may buttress Hindu side’s claim that it was a temple site. – Times Now, 26 May 2022
