Indore: With the ruling BJP apparently putting the Ram Temple issue on hold, its affiliate Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has now set a December 31 deadline for construction of a grand temple dedicated to Lord Ram at Ayodhya.

Addressing a huge gathering of saints and youths from across the country at Ujjain Mahakumbh, the saffron outfit’s general secretary Champat Rai said, “Construction will start before December 31, and we won’t wait for the Supreme Court verdict…. We kept our patience, but won’t wait beyond December.”

The VHP general secretary also dismissed reports which claimed that the temple’s construction would begin from November 1, saying ”some organisations were spreading rumours to hog limelight on the Ayodhya issue.”

He said 90% of the work for temple construction had been completed and the remaining would be done with the help of saints.

The VHP announcement comes four days ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to Ujjain where he will take part in the Vaicharik Mahakumbh. – Zee News, 11 May 2016

  1. Saints demand government to clarify its stand on Ram Mandir issue – World Hindu News – WHN Reporter – By Free Press Journal Bureau – May 15, 2016

Ujjain : A religion conference was organised at the camp of saint Ramkamal Das to brainstorm on prevailing problems of present era here at Mangalnath zone on Saturday afternoon. The programme was attended by several premier saints of different Akharas among others.

The agenda of the conference was ‘What Sanatan Dharma achieved and lost after independence of the country’ and stopping cow slaughter. However, the entire conference was dominated by the issue of construction of Ram Temple at Ayodhya. The saints from the stage of saint Ramkamal Das demanded the Union government to clear their stand on the construction of Ram Mandir at Ayodhya and reiterated their pledge of starting the construction work of the temple from November 8 at Ramjanmabhoomi despite the ban order by Supreme Court. Saint Ramkamal Das (popularly known as Vedanti Maharaj) presided over the conference and also supported the demand of Ram Mandir in his address.

The saint said, our country has progressed a lot in worldly means, but failed to progress spiritually…today’s youths are lagging behind in morals and they need guidance of the saint community. Mulook Pithadhishwar Rajendra Das, Rajeshwaranand Saraswati, Fooldol Bihari Das, Harinand Das, Satua Baba and Shankracharya of Bhaanpura Peeth were also present in the conference.

  2. This is not the first time the VHP has made such an announcement and it will not be the last.

Champat Rai’s ultimatum was directed at the Prime Minister who was in Ujjain on Saturday for the International Vichar Maha Kumbh (read his speech here).

Building a temple for Sri Ram Lalla Virajman at Ayodhya is not on the NDA’s development agenda, and it is very doubtful whether the VHP has the gumption to challenge the courts and the secular sarkar at the same time.
