“It (is) not easy ... to draw a line between Hindu nationalism and true nationalism. The two overlap as India is the only home of Hindus and they form a majority there.” — J. Nehru in Glimpses of World History
Those who permit slaying of animals; those who bring animals for slaughter; those who slaughter; those who sell meat; those who purchase meat; those who prepare dishes out of meat; those who serve that meat and those who eat it are all murderers. — Manusmriti
When I think of all the harm the Bible has done, I despair of ever writing anything to equal it.” — Oscar Wilde
"Christianity is the most ridiculous, the most absurd and bloody religion that has ever infected the world." — Voltaire
"Millions of innocent men, women and children, since the introduction of Christianity, have been burnt, tortured, fined, imprisoned, [and molested]: yet we have not advanced one inch towards humanity. What has been the effect of coercion? To make one half of the world fools, and the other half hypocrites. To support error and roguery all over the earth." — Thomas Jefferson
in Srilanka] “..,animal welfare has also become an emotive political issue. In the wake of the new government, numerous campaigns have sprung up against the use of elephants in peraheras (Buddhist religious processions). The elephant has been part of Buddhist culture and tradition for millennia and these campaigns have stirred up strong feelings. Pressure from activists has also led to Buddhist monks being remanded for allegedly ill treating elephants. While English social media highlights the rescue of elephants from malnourishment and ill treatment: Sinhala social media perceives an onslaught on its time honoured traditions by foreigners and non Buddhists. The result is to stoke widespread murmurings and deep suspicion, once again intensifying the fissures in Sri Lankan society.”

To be fair to the ass—the law—the Supreme Court did give good guidelines for conducting Jallikattu from 2008 to 2014. But the rules were ignored by the Pongal cowboys and their greedy sponsors.
“In the past, from 2008 to 2014, the special conditions of the Supreme Court regulating Jallikattu were brazenly flouted at all the events which were inspected by the Animal Welfare Board of India. The evidence gathered during the inspection proved that no regulation can or will protect bulls from misery or people from injuries. The findings revealed that Jallikattu is inherently cruel to animals and is a threat to human participants, spectators and any police or government representative assigned to monitor an event.” – Gauri Maulekhi
So the cowboys and their sponsors have only themselves to blame for the now government-overturned ban.
And today, have they changed their “traditional” ways?
Already there are three dead—including one policeman—and close to a hundred injured by the harassed, angry bulls.
Are the cowboys and their very greedy sponsors (who are placing the big bets) going to follow the rules—ever?
