The UPA government brought in the missionary visa category in November 2012. Does this extraordinary visa category still exist? Can Christian missionaries still get special visas to enter India and proselytise its gullible Hindu inhabitants? More important, what has the current Modi Sarkar done about cancelling this visa category—if anything? – Editor
Secular Government of India has made an official provision for the spread of Christianity. In its 18 types of visa to outsiders, Indian Ministry of External Affairs has created a special category for Christian Missionaries for their peaceful entry in India and undeterred performance of their holy duty of religious conversions.
The visa for missionaries is termed as “Missionary Visa” which is elaborated as “Visa to foreign missionaries, other than those holding No Objection to return to India endorsements, are granted only after clearance by concerned ministry/department in India”.
India Missionary Visa
India missionary visa is issued to those going to India for a religious purpose. It may take up to 3 months to process a missionary visa. The missionary visa is a single entry visa valid for the duration approved by the Government of India. Ministry of External Affairs has issued 18 types of Indian visa to foreign nationals in accordance with the purpose of their visit.
Interestingly Government of India’s officially granting visa to Christian missionaries goes against the core secular value of Indian Constitution. The Constitution of India terms India as a “Sovereign Socialist Secular Democratic Republic”. India’s missionary visa is a safe passage for all the elements whose only target is religious conversion in the name of education, social projects etc.
Notably India’s neighbours like China, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal have no such nonsense visa type except Sri Lanka who issues visa for religious category for the members of the clergy. Many African nations also have provisions like missionary visa.
India possesses an unforgettable bloody past of cruel tactics used for conversion by Jesuit missionaries in various parts of India. India’s parts like Goa and north-eastern states have witnessed brutality of Christian missionaries to convert Hindus.
Instead of combating Christian missionaries from disrupting India’s religious harmony, the Government of India officially issues “missionary visas” and thereby promotes the wanton destablisation and destruction of India which is evident from several years.
Christian missionaries in India
In his article “Are we heading towards a Christian India?” noted French journalist Francois Gautier observes that since Sonia Gandhi is at the top, Christian conversions in India seem to have gone in overdrive. Gautier further says that more than 4,000 foreign Christian missionaries are involved in conversion activities across different states. In Tripura, there were no Christians at independence; there are 120,000 today, a 90% increase since 1991. The figures are even more striking in Arunachal Pradesh, where there were only 1710 Christians in 1961, but 1.2 million today, as well as 780 churches! In Andhra Pradesh, churches are coming-up every day in far-flung villages and there was even an attempt to set-up one near Tirupati. Many of the North-East separatist movements, such as the Mizo or the Bodos, are not only Christian dominated, but also sometimes function with the covert backing of the missionaries.
“In Kerala, particularly in the poor coastal districts, you find “miracle boxes” put in local churches: the gullible villager writes out a paper mentioning his wish: a fishing boat, a loan for a pukka house, fees for the son’s schooling…. And lo, a few weeks later, the miracle happens! And of course the whole family converts, making others in the village follow suit. During the tsunami, entire Dalit villages in Tamil Nadu were converted to Christianity with the lure of money,” writes Gautier which is not so obscure.
In Goa, thousands of Hindus were tortured and killed by St. Francis Xavier and his Jesuit missionaries have not left behind contemporary records relating to their sufferings, trials and tribulations in “Holy” Inquisition in Goa. After the arrival of St. Francis Xavier in 1542 the movement for temple demolition in Goa was further accelerated, as he was an instigator and a role model for the demolition of the Hindu temples. From then on, the Jesuits did their worst under his cruel leadership, using every form of bribery, threat and torture against the Hindus to effect a conversion.
UPA—Anti Hindu
On one hand, Congress led UPA Government is encouraging safe channel for Christian missionaries and on the other hand it is trying to impose a draconian law on majority of Indians. Indian government working under UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh is eager to pass Prevention of Communal and Targeted Violence (Access to Justice and Reparations) Bill, 2011.
Sonia Gandhi, a proud Catholic is the chairman of National Advisory Council. Under her leadership a committee consisting people like notorious Teesta Setalvad, Harsh Mander, Ram Puniyani, Shabnam Hashmi have drafted the Bill. The draconian and anti social provisions of this new law will encourage elements like missionaries and to those who are relentlessly working to divide India on religious grounds. Prime focus of this anti-hindu and anti-national bill is to protect all religious entities who are trying to lure Indian society and convert them by each way possible.
Government’s apathy
Government’s apathy towards national security and policy of appeasement has already made India a safe haven for Bangladeshi infiltrators. Recent attacks on Bodos in Assam are evident of how government is still withstanding with Muslim invaders from Bangladesh.
India’s missionary visa policy is another indication of government mindset as anti-Hindu mindset. Provision of missionary visa, encourages conversion by missionaries which are threatening religious rights of scores of Indians. – NewsBharat, 9 November 2012

So far as we can ascertain, the Missionary Visa is still available to missionaries seeking to enter India for “missionary work not involving proselytization” as of November 2020.

Not many foreign missionaries are going to apply for this visa. They will continue to enter India anonymously as tourists to do their nefarious work.
Probably there are not so many foreign missionaries in India today, some thousands maybe. Most of the proselytising work is done by native missionaries from Kerala who count in the tens of thousands. These missionaries are Indian citizens and their activities are not monitored by government or Hindu organisations. They pose a much greater threat to the Hindu community than do foreign missionaries though this has yet to be realised by the Hindu Samaj.
