The methods adopted by the invaders have left behind them their aftermath. One aftermath is the bitterness between the Hindus and the Muslims which they have caused. This bitterness, between the two, is so deep-seated that a century of political life has neither succeeded in assuaging it; nor in making people forget it. As the invasions were accompanied with destruction of temples and forced conversions, with spoliation of property, with slaughter, enslavement and abasement of men, women and children, what wonder if the memory of these invasions has ever remained green, as a source of pride to the Muslims and as a source of shame to the Hindus?  — B. Why is PM Modi not declaring Ram Setu a national monument, asks Swamy – TND

Ram Sethu: Rama's causeway to Sri Lanka

Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy questioned PM Narendra Modi over the delay in declaring Ram Setu as a national heritage monument. – TND

BJP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the delay in declaring Ram Setu as a national heritage monument so that it can be maintained by Centre.

Taking to Twitter on [Oct. 22], Swami wrote: “Why is PM not signing the file to declare Ram Setu as National Monument so that the Setu can be maintained by Union Government? Is anyone worried that I will get the credit or is it Uttarakhand  Government type of perverseness in the PMO? I don’t need the credit. Lord Ram does.”

Dr. Subramanian Swamy

Also known as Adam’s Bridge, Ram Setu is a chain of limestone shoals between Rameswaram Island off the south-eastern coast of Tamil Nadu [and Mannar Island, off the north-western coast of Sri Lanka].

Hindus believe that the Rama Setu was constructed by the Vanara army to rescue Sita who was being held captive by Ravana in Lanka.

In 2007, the Archaeological Survey of India and the UPA government informed the Supreme Court of India that there was no historical proof of the bridge being built by Lord Ram.

Swamy had also filed a PIL against the controversial Sethusamudram Ship Channel Project initiated by the UPA-I government after which the matter reached the Supreme Court ordered a stay on the project.

The controversial project has evoked sharp protests from many environmentalists and Hindutva organisations after it was proposed by the erstwhile United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government.

In 2018, the Union government said it had taken a decision not to go ahead with the original alignment of the Sethusamudram Shipping Canal Project in order to protect Ram Setu.

Swamy had earlier filed a petition before the apex court and sought an early hearing of his application to recognise Ram Setu as an ancient historical monument. The bench headed by CJI Bobde asked the Rajya Sabha MP to mention the matter after three months and also directed the Centre to make its stand clear by filing an affidavit. – Times Now Digital, Oct 22, 2020
