“This columnist is still a UNESCO Peace Chair. However, his views on the way in which certain countries in Europe have been seeking to return to the 19th century have apparently been noted in Paris, so it is very likely that this appellation may not be available for much longer. As with the broader UN bureaucracy, UNESCO too is heavily influenced by West Europe and its allies across the Atlantic Ocean, who regard as anti-democratic any opinion that does not fully conform to their own.” – Prof. M. D. Nalapat
Blood is thicker than water, so it is not surprising that Sonia Gandhi’s heart is firmly anchored in Europe, the continent of her birth. Almost every month, there are house guests from Europe in 10 Janpath, the stately mansion that has been set aside by successive governments in India to provide the widow of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi a home. Now that Sonia’s two children are well into adulthood, the Manmohan Singh government has allocated two other bungalows for them, for daughter Priyanka and son Rahul to use as and when they deem it necessary.
Whenever the Congress Party has been in power, it has shown its gratitude to the Nehru family in myriad ways. This columnist recently left Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi and while in Mumbai, crossed the Rajiv Gandhi Sea Link into the city, returning from Mumbai to the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad. Although the media in India has been prompt in looking askance at the many statues of Dalit icon Kanshi Ram and his protege Mayawati that have been erected in Uttar Pradesh while Mayawati was the state’s Chief Minister, thus far they do not appear to have noticed the many tens of thousands of statues of Motilal Nehru, his son Jawaharlal, grand-daughter Indira and great-grandson Rajiv that adorn multiple locations in the country now once again under the control of the Nehru family.
However, relatives from the Kashmiri Brahmin side of the family (ie the actual Nehrus) seldom get invited to 10 Janpath, and hardly ever enjoy the exalted status of house guests. That privilege is almost exclusively reserved for relatives from Europe, especially Italy, the country of Sonia’s birth. Almost every month, either she or her children go to Europe, to luxuriate in the simple comforts of home after having escaped the stifling luxuries that their VVIP status automatically gives them in India, such as huge mansions, state-provided staff, convoys of automobiles, chartered
flights and so much else that a grateful nation bestows on the mother, son and daughter who collectively constitute the Congress High Command.
Naturally, the language used while talking to each other is Italian, and naturally, while travelling in the Mother Continent of Europe, the family sheds the unfamiliar dress that is the uniform of politicians in India to slip into European garb, or very often American, such as denims and sports shirts. A respectful media, both national and international, do not even attempt to intrude into such private space. Sonia is lucky, in that the tribal instincts of reporters from the “civilized world” ensure that they almost always give her and her immediate family favourable treatment, while blacking out entirely the extended family, and its economic and commercial parameters. In India of course, the Income-tax department, the Enforcement Directorate, the Intelligence Bureau and the Central Bureau of Investigation collectively ensure that their beloved Madam is not disturbed by negative reporting. Of what use is state power, unless it can be deployed in this quiet way, in order to protect the family that has given its name to almost every major government scheme in India?
This columnist is still, at the time of writing, a UNESCO Peace Chair. However, his views on the way in which certain countries in Europe have been seeking to return to the 19th century have apparently been noted in Paris, so it is very likely that this appellation may not be available for much longer. As with the broader UN bureaucracy, UNESCO too is heavily influenced by West Europe and its allies across the Atlantic Ocean, who regard as anti-democratic any opinion that does not fully conform to their own. However, despite the obvious risks of such a course, it would be impossible for the conscience of this columnist to permit the expression of views in the diluted form that would ensure an absence of hostility within influential quarters in the civilized world. If this means that the UNESCO Peace Chair tag be removed from his name, so be it.
Since their assumption of office in 2004, there has been a systematic effort by the Sonia-led ruling coalition to ensure that policies get followed which severely degrade the ability of India to compete against European commercial entities in the global market. Interest rates have been raised to levels that can only be described as criminal, having gone well beyond the level of classification as insane.
The latest gift to Europe is a cash transfer of $10 billion, evidently on top of the $2 billion already committed to the International Monetary Fund. That the euro is in a terminal state is obvious. There is no way that Italy and even France can escape monetary and economic disaster, it is just a matter of time. As for Greece and Spain, they are in a terminal state. Rather than throw money away by giving funds to an IMF controlled by Christine Lagarde for the sole purpose of getting the rest of the world to hand over their surpluses to the profligate in Europe, it would have been better to invest in gold or in assets, including assets abroad. Instead, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who knows the mind of his political boss well and has therefore been able to continue in office without interruption, has handed over a further $10 billion to the IMF. This at a time when the fiscal deficit of his recklessly extravagant government is reaching crisis levels. The Indian economy cannot afford to gift – for that is what any loan to certain European countries is – even $10 million. The economy is just two to three years away from bankruptcy. The decision of the Sonia-led ruling coalition to throw taxpayer money away is in line with other policies that favour Europe at the expense of India.
Of course, for the same reason why the media in India is quiet, so are the so-called “Opposition” parties, none of whom have protested with any vigour at this destructive decision. According to senior officials within the government, the $12 billion handed over to certain European states via the IMF will soon be joined by a further tranche of $10 billion, discussions for which are going on. If it were not that the human consequences of such decisions on hundreds of millions of semi-starved people are so tragic, it could be termed the Theatre of the Absurd. A country with 300 million at starvation level throwing away huge dollops of cash at countries where the population enjoys an infinitely better life. Those that have will get mire, while those that are poor will find themselves even worse off. This seems to be the logic of present-day geopolitics. – Pakistan Observer, Islamabad, 1 July 2012

Dear Friends,
The Supreme Court just boldly ruled to kick criminals out of politics — a landmark step to clean up Parliament! But now those same gangsters are trying to overturn these rulings. And only we can stop them.
In any other serious democracy the Supreme Court bans would be a base line — politicians convicted of crimes should lose their seats and if you are in jail you cannot stand for election. Basic stuff! But according to reports, 30% of our parliamentarians have criminal charges against them. Some MPs are fighting back to cling to power and now the Attorney General is doing them a favour advising they change the Constitution. It’s our people power vs criminal politics – lets block them now.
The AG’s Constitutional reform could happen in days. We can’t let this extraordinary chance to finally clean up Indian politics be wrecked by the crooks. Let’s massively support the Supreme Court and directly slam the Attorney General and MPs. Click now to sign this urgent petition to cast out the criminals — Avaaz will deliver it directly to all three arms of government:

An incredible 30% of parliamentarians have some sort of criminal charges against them. They’ve managed to hold onto power because of a major loophole in the law and remain in office if they simply appealed a conviction within three months of receiving a guilty verdict. This new Supreme Court order means that anyone convicted from now onwards loses their seat immediately — making this a monumental step towards cleaning up the criminalisation of politics.
Looking at the shameful disruptions of Parliament sessions on TV, it’s clear that parliamentarians love to debate and disagree. But when it comes to saving their skin, they are all united. An all-party meeting was called and all political parties have agreed to challenge the Supreme Court judgement. They are even considering a law that allows them to appoint judges of their choice — recklessly threatening our democracy even further.
The politicians plans to keep the crooks are starting to be made public. So let’s blindside them now with a massive cry of support for the independence and activism of the Supreme Court — one of India’s finest institutions — and tell the Attorney General and Parliament to back off. Years ago Avaaz took on a similar battle in Brazil to help clean up its democracy, pushing forward a powerful bill to ban corrupt politicians from public office when everybody said it was impossible. India is a far older democracy and the world’s largest, with millions of people hoping for a change. Let’s get every citizen who cares to join this call to cast out the criminals!
With hope and determination,
The Avaaz team

Sonia Gandhi’s problem with Rao was not just that he was not servile, but he had surprised her by not bending in curtsy. During his tenure as India’s Foreign Minister, he had been in the shadows of Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi. But upon becoming the Prime Minister, he reinvented his image and broke-away from the dynastic shackles. This is evident from the fact that his speeches rarely paid any obeisance to Indira or Rajiv. He did not consult Sonia Gandhi while taking any decisions. Such was her hatred for Rao, that when he passed away at 83, his body was not allowed inside AICC building. He was cremated with full state honours in Hyderabad after the then Chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, Dr. Y.S.Rajashekhar Reddy intervened. Sonia did not attend his funeral, nor did she allow a Samadhi for him in Delhi. Rao is the only deceased Prime Minister who does not have a Memorial in Delhi

Narasimha Rao’s final humiliation
http://www.rediff.com/news/2004/dec/28monu.htm
It was clear to observers that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was not being consulted on this matter, there was not even a pretence of that on the part of the emissaries of the Unseen Power. A few such as Ahmed Patel could be observed giving regular updates via cellphone to Somebody about the situation in 9 Motilal Nehru Marg. A very useful man, Ahmed Patel.
It was decided Somewhere that PV’s body would be sent back to his home state. Ironically, PV had spent the previous 30 years in New Delhi, as a Cabinet minister, as an AICC general secretary and as prime minister. Even when he had been the prime minister, no member of his family lived with him, they would come on (infrequent) visits.
In his last years to, he lived alone. Thus the attempt to justify a shift to Hyderabad on the grounds that “he was not a Delhi resident” was somewhat of a stretch. Another argument used to justify the move to Hyderabad for the final obsequies was that the Vajpayee Cabinet had passed a resolution against any more samadhis. Again, for a regime that has been talking of ‘detoxifying’ the country from the misdeeds of the Vajpayee Parivar era, this was somewhat ingenious.
The family behaved with quiet dignity throughout. They said that as their father had been a Congressman, a freedom fighter, a prime minister, they would leave it to the Congress party and the government as to what was to be done.
The only moment of friction came when a high official suggested that if the sentiment was so overwhelming within the circle of those who loved PV that the cremation take place in the national capital, then very well, it would take place, but in the Delhi cantonment, as though PV were some bacillus that the refined gentry living in the Lutyens Zone did not want to see contaminate their environment.
The response to this suggestion on the part of those close to PV was that they would then cremate him at the Nigambodh Ghat, along with the other common men, which after all was all that he seemed to be to the powers-that-be.
It was at this stage that a Heavy Hitter arrived, in the person of Y S Rajshekhar Reddy, chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, who ‘cajoled’ those close to PV into ‘agreeing’ that it would be best to cremate him in Hyderabad. Around this time, those who looked like Intelligence Bureau sleuths began nosing around the rooms. It had been known that PV had kept voluminous records, including the draft of a book on the Emergency. It is unlikely that any of this will ever emerge into the daylight, except in a very sanitised way.
The next day, December 24, the body of the former Congress prime minister was brought to the gates of the AICC office at 24, Akbar Road and kept there for 20 minutes, ‘to pay homage.’ Apparently, the body was so heavy that it would not have been possible to lift what was left of PV from the gun carriage into the Congress headquarters, which would have been the civilised thing to do.
After this final humiliation, P V Narasimha Rao left New Delhi for Hyderabad, this time for good.

Indias Brown colonials
http://pakobserver.net/detailnews.asp?id=189006https://bharatabharati.wordpress.com/2013/02/14/india-ruled-by-brown-colonials-madhav-nalapat/
Take the example of the de facto ruler of India,Sonia Gandhi. Whenever she or her family travels out of the country or into it,special treatment is given that is very different from the discomfort endured by ordinary citizens. When Sonia Gandhi travels by car within Delhi, there are more than a dozen vehicles in the convoy, while traffic gets blocked for miles as a consequence. Naturally, the example of the UPA Chairperson is followed by her minions as well. They each ensure that their lifestyles and their activities get conducted in a manner which indicates their exalted status, complete with flashing red lights and police sirens. The complete separation between Rulers and Ruled in India is of course never mentioned by the Court Historians and Court Boosters of the Nehru family
Although Prime Minister P V Narasimha Rao (who was so disliked by Sonia Gandhi that in 2004 she made his coffin wait outside on the pavement rather than allow it to enter the Congress HQ) sought to reduce some of the colonial-era blanket of laws, since 2004,the Manmohan Singh government has brought back the excesses of the Nehru period.Laws and procedures have been tightened so as to ensure that any official can find some excuse to harass any citizen. In several such activities, the police are the accomplices.India’s police still function in accordance with the 1862 Police Act passed by the British. No “democratic” government since 1947 has ever bothered to change this colonial-era system,by which those in uniform are given life and death power over innocent citizens.

Here is a good article that exposes the Indian pet media.

“For the last 10 days or so all TV channels have been chasing Asaram (who is accused of sexual assault in a Jodhpur police complaint) at Bhopal, Indore and Jodhpur. The reporters were shoving mics and cameras all around him and at him. The most aggressive were the TimesNow and IBN reporters. This paparazzi-like behaviour is now assuming dangerous proportions. So much that it led to violence between the reporters and Asaram’s supporters. Naturally, the ones with the TV channels and mics screamed they were assaulted by Asaram’s supporters. To double their media-trial of Asaram they added a new story of assault by Asaram supporters to their shrill reporting. Rajdeep Sardesai, Ashutosh and others were quick to play “victim”. But who started the fracas? Let’s take a look at some more images.”
