Swami Agnivesh manhandled for remarks against Lord Shiva – The Indian Express

Lord Shiva as Amarnath: Only a natural phenomenon, Agnivesh?Social worker Swami Agnivesh was on Friday manhandled by activists of a local organisation in Bhopal for his alleged derogatory remarks against the Hindu god Shiva at Amarnath. The incident took place after a programme to launch the Maila Mukti Yatra in which Union Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Jairam Ramesh and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan were present.

Police immediately intervened and forced away the activists from the spot. “We protested against Agnivesh for his recent remarks against the Hindu god Shiva. We would not spare anyone, specially those wearing saffron robes, for acting in such a manner,” Sanskriti Bachao Manch’s convener Chandra Shekhar Tiwari said.

The Manch activists forcibly removed a cloth worn by Agnivesh and also tried to remove his headgear but could not, he admitted. Tiwari said the people of this country look upon those wearing saffron robes with great respect and if such persons engage in loose talk about gods, then it would not be tolerated.

Later talking to reporters, Agnivesh said that he had pardoned those who were involved in the incident and that he would not like to comment on it – Indian Express, 1 December 2012

Swami Agnivesh defends child-abusing Santiniketan hostel warden – Priscilla Jebaraj

The Viswa Bharati hostel warden, who allegedly forced a 10-year-old student to lick her own urine, has found an unlikely defender in social activist Swami Agnivesh.

Uma Poddar’s actions may have outraged the nation, but Swami Agnivesh has merely derided the “senseless ruckus” made by the girl’s parents, the media, and “even the Prime Minister’s Office.”

Citing the Viswa-Bharati Vice Chancellor, who “categorically denied any use of force on the girl,” Swami Agnivesh said: “It is sad that a simple piece of advice by the hostel warden has created so much ruckus by the girl’s parents and then by the media.”

When it was pointed out that according to the girl’s own account, the warden made her do it, Swami Agnivesh told The Hindu: “She was asked to do it, she was told to do it. She was not literally forced. Her hands were not tied, and it was not poured into her mouth.”

In a statement on Tuesday, Swami Agnivesh listed the names of well-known urine therapy advocates – including the former Prime Minister, Morarji Desai, and politicians Chaudhari Devi Lal and George Fernandes – and added that he was a practitioner himself: “While for many, the traditional cure may sound abhorring (sic) and feudal, I practised it myself for months on end when in Ambala Central Jail during Emergency, I read books on Nature Cure and found this method described as “Shivambu” or Swamootra Chikitsa, [urine therapy],” said the statement. “I had this problem of bedwetting till quite advanced age. “Shivambu” cure helped reduce it.”

Child rights activists are appalled by such a defence. “Unlike all these leaders, this child did not choose to do this. Even if there was no physical force used – and this has not been proved yet – it is a serious issue of choice and dignity,” says Enakshi Ganguly, co-director of HAQ: Centre for Child Rights.

She pointed out that for any child who has been taught to treat urination as a private matter not to be discussed with her peers, such treatment could be humiliating. “Was there any medical opinion taken? Was a child psychologist consulted about the original cause of the bedwetting? Why were the parents kept in the dark if this is such a wonderful cure” she asked. “If urine therapy is so beneficial, then all the children should have been drinking their own piss, instead of just singling out that one child.” – The Hindu, 12 July 2012

  1. Great idea Ishwarji! A smack or two might bring him to his senses!

  2. Humilation of Dabba Pignivesh. Pignivesh even ditched Anna Hazare. That is also raised in the video. Pignivesh does not understand what is voluntary drinking of urine (for example Morarji Desai) and what is forced (the girl is the present case). Pignivesh is not an idiot but an imbecile, nicoompoop.

  3. Buy pardoning the assailants, Swami Agnivesh has admitted that he was indeed assaulted! But, I can not understand as to why Swami Agnivesh who has loosely used his tongue against our Lord Shiva has refused to comment on the incident against him. Does this show that he has learnt a lesson? One’s right of Freedom of Speech and Expression does not permit to defame, hurt or wound the religious sentiments of others. Swami Agnivesh who is said to be an Advocate must be aware of this. Activists of ‘Sanskrithi Bachavo Manch’ deserve compliments for protesting against the illegal and indecent remarks of saffron robe clad Swami Agnivesh.

  4. I agree completely that Agnivesh is an idiot and his intelligence has not increased a bit with his own urine. May be some one else will donate his urine for Agnivesh to drink and Agnivesh may gain an iota of sense.

  5. Arya Samaji Agnivesh thrives on notoriety.

His nature cure practices have not increased his intelligence one bit, but a good smack might encourage him to try some hard thinking instead of always leaking at the mouth in public.

Agnivesh said that he had pardoned those who were involved in the incident and that he would not like to comment on it. Agnivesh should know that you cannot pardon or forgive somebody their action UNTIL THEY HAVE ADMITTED THEIR WRONG DOING. The Hindu activists have not admitted any wrong doing so it follows that they cannot be pardoned so easily.

What an idiot Agnivesh is! Some of these ‘reformist’ sadhus are really contemptible!
