BJP leader Subramanian Swamy today claimed that work on the construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya would start before this year-end and an action plan for that would be unveiled at a conference here on January 9.

He, however, made it clear that the temple would not come up through a movement but only after the court verdict, which he hoped would come by August-September and with the mutual consent of Muslim and Hindu communities.

“We expect the construction work on the Ram temple at Ayodhya to start within the next two-three months and certainly before the end of this year. We will wait for a court verdict and the temple would not come up through any ‘andolan‘ (movement),” he told reporters at the VHP office here.

Asked if the decision was linked to the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections in early 2017, he said, “Rama should not be linked with elections. Rama is a matter of faith for Hindus and construction of the temple at Ayodhya is a commitment of every Hindu.”

Ram Seminar at DU 2016He said if the issue comes up later, it will then be linked to the next Lok Sabha polls.

Swamy claimed that efforts are being made at resolving the issue amicably between Hindus and Muslims so that the temple and the masjid come up on both sides of the Saryu river in Ayodhya.

The issue will be discussed at the 2-day national conference in Delhi University on “Shree Ram Janambhoomi Temple: The Emerging Scenario” which would see the coming together of 300 scholars, academics and archaeologists who would discuss legal and other aspects of the Ram Temple.

Among the speakers at the conference include legal experts, archaeologists and experts, besides historians and Swamy himself. It will be organised under the aegis of Arundhati Vashisht Anusandhan Peeth.

“An action plan will be presented at the conference and government urged to move the court and become a party in the case,” he said, adding, “If government supports us, we will start the construction work on the temple within two-three months”.

Talking about the case, he said, “it is in such a stage that the verdict is likely to come out by August or September this year.”

Swamy when asked about the controversy over the conference at Delhi varsity campus, said it is not a Delhi University sponsored event but an event for which a hall has been rented out and the same is being held on a weekend.

He also rubbished charges by Congress and Left that it was aimed at vitiating the campus atmosphere among students there.

“We will hold consultations with the Muslim community and help try to resolve the issue amicably,” he said, adding that the Narasimha Rao government had in 1994 told the constitution bench of Supreme court that it will allow a temple to be rebuilt if it is proved that the site belongs to a temple.

VHP wants bill in Parliament to build temple at Ayodhya – Business Standard – Press Trust of India – New Delhi – January 8, 2016

VHP today made a strong pitch for bringing a bill in Parliament to pave the way for construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya and expressed confidence of it becoming a reality during the tenure of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

VHP leader Surendra Jain also reached out to Congress president Sonia Gandhi urging her to support the bill inside Parliament.

“Modiji is a smart politician. He is aware people who are pushing for the temple are also responsible for his victory as well as those who want development. He will respect their emotions,” Jain, VHP’s international joint secretary general, told reporters here.

“Modiji has a plan for 10-15 years. Lambi race ke ghode hai woh (he is a man for long innings). He can be there (in power) for 10-15 years only when he is able to deliver on the core issue. Hence, we are confident, he will,” he said.

Jain said a delegation of saints will also meet Modi over the temple issue.

He urged Gandhi and her son Rahul too to have a “change of heart” by supporting the bill or “at least not oppose” it in Parliament.

“Her husband wanted the temple to come up. He had launched his poll campaign(in 1989 general election) campaign from Ayodhya with a commitment that he will bring in Ram Rajya. So, how come she will not fulfill will of her husband? At least, she should not oppose. Rahul too should have change of heart,” Jain said.

He claimed that right wing leaders have already met over 500 former and present Lok Sabha members seeking their support for the cause.

The VHP leader maintained that the bill is “important” to see that the temple takes shape as approaching courts in this regard will be time consuming with disgruntled parties in the matter exploring legal options for favourable results.

He also hit out at detractors of right wing outfits over the allegations that they are fanning the issue in view of “crucial” 2017 assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh.

“It is not a poll issue for us. It is our resolution to see the temple is built,” he said, adding the VHP is collecting stones for the temple work “in the form of donations”.

Jain though did not spell out any deadline by when the temple construction work will begin.

  2. Delhi University Seminar Security

Swamy raises saffron flag at DU, says ‘no compromise, we will not give up until Ram temple is built’ – Debobrat Ghose – Firstpost – New Delhi – Jan 10, 2016

Amid high decibel sloganeering slamming the BJP and its right wing friends, senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Subramanian Swamy went ahead with a seminar on the construction of Ram Temple in Ayodhya where he asserted that nothing will be done forcibly or against the law but “we will not give up” until the Ram Temple is built.

“Construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya is ‘mandatory’ for revival of our culture. We have started and we will not give up until it is made but nothing will be done forcibly and against the law. We have full faith that we will win in the court,” he said in his inaugural address at the two-day seminar.

Claiming that former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi had promised him of support for the construction of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, Mr. Swamy appealed to Congress to come forward and support the cause.

“Once we get final order from the Supreme Court, the work for the construction of Ram Mandir will begin in the next three to four months. This was also the last wish of the late Ashok Singhal,” Swamy said.

    Swamy invokes Rajiv Gandhi’s “assurance”

“Rajiv Gandhi had personally told me that Ram Mandir will be built and whenever he will get an opportunity he will also help and the first help he did was that despite party opposition, he started the television serial on Ramayana which created a new excitement in public,” he said.

“He had said they will permit the foundation laying too. He had also said in his campaign for 1989 elections that there should be Ram Rajya in the country. I hope Congress will also come forward and support as this is not just our demand but that of the country,” he said.

Mr. Swamy had earlier this week said that the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya would begin by this year-end with the cooperation of the Muslim community.
“No compromise on Ayodhya, Mathura, Kashi”

“No compromise on Ayodhya, Mathura, Kashi”

“In our country , over 40,000 temples have been demolished, we never say that all those should be reconstructed…but there cannot be a compromise on three of them — Ram Janmabhoomi temple, Krishna temple in Mathura and Kashivishwanath, if Ram Temple is constructed there will be easy way for others, discussions can be done but not compromise,” he said.

Ram Mandir is an aim for us. And when the Muslims leaders had committed that if it is proved that there was temple earlier, they will let us reconstruct it there, not fulfilling that commitment can be contempt of court,” he added.

The two-day seminar titled “Shri Ram Janma Bhoomi Temple: Emerging Scenario” is being organised at DU’s Arts Faculty by Arundhati Vashishtha Anusandhan Peeth (AVAP), a research organisation founded by late VHP leader Ashok Singhal.

There was strong opposition from the student groups to DU’s decision for allowing such a seminar alleging it would “communalise” the campus and push the “saffron agenda”.

The protesters including that from Left-affiliated student wings AISA, DSF, SFI and Congress-affiliate NSUI, staged demonstrations outside the protest venue and were detained later.

Mr. Swamy, who is the chairman of AVAP, delivered the inaugural address at the seminar which will see historians, archaeologists and law experts discussing various topics including “Lord Ram’s character and values, and their impact on Indian culture”, “History of the Ram temple and related archaeological findings”, “Legal issues around Ram temple” and “Experience and future of Ram temple”.

“Won’t let Modi govt use academia for politics”

Roji M John, NSUI president told Firstpost, “We can’t let educational institutions in this country get divided on communal lines. Similar to the FTII, the Modi-government has been using universities for its own political agenda. We won’t allow it to happen in DU and will protect it with all our force. We’ll mobilise students across the country to unmask the real face of BJP.”

“There are several issue like opening of new colleges, increasing the seat capacity, development, etc, but the government chose to have seminar on Ram Mandir. It’s an attempt to rake up the communal issue. We won’t let saffronisation happen in the campus.” Ranjit, an AISA member said.

“DU hosts several types of seminars and Ram Mandir is a national issue. So, what’s the harm in having a seminar on this issue? No one is constructing Ram Mandir in the DU campus and universities are meant for debates and discussions. It’s the first-of-its-kind academic seminar on Ram Mandir issue,” Delhi state secretary of ABVP, Saket Bahuguna told Firstpost.

“Despite having so many issues before the government, the BJP has been trying to play the Ram Mandir card keeping the forthcoming UP election in mind,” Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar said.
